Our venues
The Puerta Cortés complex offers ideal locations for weddings and unforgettable events. From a setting on the beach for your ceremony, Terrace overlooking the Marina and romantic sunsets, to the majestic view of the entire Bahía de la Paz in the garden of our El Cortés Golf Club.
The beach
Ceremony on the sand with the Sea of Cortez behind you. Late afternoon is the standard slot — the light softens, the heat drops, and the ceremony ends more or less as the sun goes down.
The pool and grand staircase
The main pool has a staircase built for an entrance. Used for ceremonies and for receptions that spill outward once dinner is cleared.
The marina terrace
Overlooking the boats, with the sunset directly across the water. Works for a cocktail hour between ceremony and dinner, or for the whole reception at a smaller headcount.
El Cortés Golf Club garden
The highest of the four, with the whole of Bahía de La Paz laid out below. The choice when you want the view to be the decoration.
Las Islas Salon
The indoor option, and the weather plan. A 200-person ballroom that divides into three rooms, with full audiovisual capability.
Planning a wedding in Mexico — the practical part
Two things catch couples out. First, a legally binding civil ceremony in Mexico is a separate process from the symbolic ceremony on the beach, with its own paperwork, blood tests in some states, witnesses and a registrar. Many couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here. Discuss this with the wedding coordinator early, because the timeline is measured in weeks, not days.
Second, guest logistics. La Paz airport takes fewer international flights than Los Cabos, so a proportion of your guests will land at SJD and drive up. Building a shuttle into your plan is normal here and the coordination team handles it routinely.
Season
October to May is wedding season: dry, warm, and comfortable outdoors after four in the afternoon. Late summer brings heat, humidity and the tail of the tropical storm season — cheaper, but a real weather risk for an outdoor ceremony.
Room blocks
Six room categories across the resort means you can price a block for a range of budgets. Guests who want kitchens or a lower nightly rate can look at the apartments and guesthouses in our La Paz directory — several are within ten minutes of the property.
Honeymoons
The obvious combination is a Super Suite Sea View, a ritual at Espíritu Spa, and a day boat to Espíritu Santo island to snorkel with the sea lion colony at Los Islotes. Add a sunset sail out of the marina and a table at Steinbeck’s and the week plans itself.
Questions
Frequently asked
How many guests can you accommodate?
Las Islas Salon seats up to 200 and divides into three separate rooms. Outdoor venues vary. For an accurate capacity against your headcount and layout, submit the wedding enquiry form with your dates.
Can we get legally married at the resort?
A civil marriage in Mexico is a separate legal process with its own documentation and a registrar. Many couples complete the legal marriage at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here. Raise it with the coordinator at the first conversation.
What is the best month for an outdoor ceremony?
October through May. November to April is the most reliable stretch for dry, comfortable evenings. Avoid late August and September if an outdoor ceremony is non-negotiable.
